Lewis County Fire Protection District #6 was established in 1956.
The Commissioners borrowed $20,000 to buy an engine and equipment and to have a little money to run the District for the year. In 1956, the District served 2245 citizens. In 1958, a first aid program was established, followed by EMT training in 1974. By 2008, the District had grown to 5 stations, approximately 8000 citizens and 144 Sq. miles. The District is a combination department, consisting of a full time chief, full time secretary, fire fighter EMT's, firefighter Paramedics, and a combination of approximately 20 firefighters or firefighter EMT's . The District has mutual aid agreements county-wide to improve response time and safety.
