Emergency Medical Technician
The EMT program is administrated through Centralia Community College. The EMT program is intended to prepare the student to provide high quality pre-hospital emergency medical care. EMT training is fast paced and the coursework is challenging.
Classes are usually offered in the Spring and in the Fall depending on the number of students and agencies requesting the class. Instruction is provided at an off campus location. Lewis County Fire District 6 and Morton General Hospital have graciously allowed their training rooms to be utilized. Training is on
Tuesday and Thursday nights and a few Saturday mornings. The clinical experience is conducted through the Providence Centralia Hospital Emergency Department.
The EMT program is normally conducted on Tuesday and Thursday nights with a few Saturday classes. The program begins with an online component for 3 - 4weeks and then an additional 14 weeks of classroom time. The class is concluded with the National Registry exam. All students that have a minimum of an 80% classroom average will be invited to take the final practical exam and the national certification exam. Students with less that a 80% will get a college letter grade and are welcome to retake the class upon the next offering.
Beginning in 2010, all students are now required to take the National Registry exam at the conclusion of the class in order to obtain Washington State Certification. The National Registry exam is replacing the Washington State Written exam. Centralia Community College is a National Registry testing site. The cost to take the National Registry exam is $70.
We have one Senior EMT Instructor, Chris Layton.
